ABOUT ERS WRAP™ HOSE AND PIPE BLANKET INSULATION

ABOUT:  ERS Wrap™ is a multipurpose sewn industrial insulation blanket that can be used to insulate virtually any hot mechanical part up to approximately 400°.  Our industrial insulation blankets will significantly reduce surface temperatures, providing personnel protection and saving you money!

APPLICATIONS:  We primarily use our ERS Wrap™ blanket insulation rolls on hoses and in-line pipe.  We make our insulation blanket rolls in various widths depending on the diameter of the pipe/hose being insulated.

HOOK AND LOOP:  We make the rolls with and without hook and loop.  Generally, we recommend using rolls with hook and loop for IPS up to 4"-5".  For IPS greater than 5", the rolls without hook and loop provide a better fit.

MATERIAL SPECS:  The insulation blanket rolls are made using a silicone impregnated fiberglass fabric, and lined with temp mat.  Temp mat is a fiberglass needled insulating fabric suitable for high temperatures. ERS WRAP™ BLANKET INSULATION ROLLS

We have insulated thousands of hoses and in-line pipes using our ERS Wrap™ fiberglass insulation blanket rolls.  The width of the roll depends on the diameter of the pipe or hose being insulated.

WHAT WE NEED TO KNOW

DIAMETER

DIAMETER

LENGTH

FITTINGS

DIAMETER:  If you don't know the iron pipe size (IPS) or diameter of the hose or pipe you are trying to insulated, no problem.  Using a pipe caliper, you can quite easily determine the diameter.  From the IPS, we are able to calculate circumference, or the width of roll you will need to properly insulate your pipe or hose.

LENGTH:  Determine how many feet you are trying to insulate.  Remember, it's always better to get more!

FITTINGS OR BENDS: We recommend you buy our insulation bigger then needed so you can easily accommodate bends or small increases in diameter.

INSTALLING ERS WRAP™ BLANKET INSULATION ROLLS

Wrap It!

Simply measure the length of the pipe or hose you are insulating.  Cut the ERS Wrap industrial insulation roll, and wrap it!  Use outdoor grade black or stainless steel cable ties to aid in install.  Silicon caulk can also be used at the base of insulation to prevent the entry of water.  It's that simple.

Maintenance, no problem!  Our ERS Wrap industrial insulation blanket rolls can be removed and reinstalled in minutes!

FAQ ERS Wrap for Hoses and In-Line Pipe

What do I need to measure to get the correct size of ERS Wrap™ rolls?

There are two things you need to measure:

1. The Iron Pipe Size (IPS) determines the width of the ERS Wrap™ that would work best!

2. The length of pipes/hoses you are trying to wrap.

What is the difference between Iron Pipe Size (IPS), Nominal Pipe Size, Outside Diameter (OD) and Circumference?

IPS is industry standard baseline for selecting the appropriate industrial pipe insulation. Iron Pipe Size is also referred to as Nominal Pipe Size.

OD the pipe or hose OD will be larger then then the IPS because it includes the width of the walls of the pipe or hose.

Circumference refers to the length (in inches) of the perimeter of the item you are trying to wrap.

Why is the circumference important?

Ultimately, we need to know the circumference of what you are trying to insulate to ensure we recommend the appropriate width of roll.

How do I calcuate circumference?

Circumference is calculated as the OD (outside diameter which includes the nominal pipe size plus the width of the outer edges) plus the increase in width from the insulation you are applying, multiplied by pi/π.

For example, if you have a 1 1/2" IPS, covering ERS Wrap using 1/2" temp, circumference would be calculated as follows:

(1 1/2" + (1/2" + 1/2")) x 3.14 = 9.11

( IPS + (width insulation x 2)) x π = minimum width to cover pipe

Should the width of ERS Wrap™ insulation blanket roll exceed circumference?

YES!

If you order exactly the width, the ERS Wrap™ will only butt up to itself. You want ERS Wrap to overlap!

How many inches over circumference should I order?

The short answer is it depends on how you want the insulation to fit.

The minimum extra width we recommend is circumference PLUS 2" (rounded up to a whole number). That will give approximately 0.5-1.0 inch of extra room.

Why would I deliberately order ERS Wrap™ large?

If you have bends, fittings, unions, couplings, elbows, etc., we recommend going larger then circumference.

When in doubt, go large!

Can ERS Wrap™ go over increases in diameter?

Yes, so long as you've ordered a wide enough piece to accomodate for the increase in diameter. Another reason we recommend you go large!

What tools do I need to measure?

You will need a pipe caliper and a measuring tape.

The pipe caliper will give you the diameter of the pipe. We need the pipe diameter to determine the appropriate circumference or width of the ERS Wrap.

The measuring tape is used to determine the length of hoses and/or pipe you are trying to insulate.

Why use ERS Wrap™ blanket insulation on in-line pipes over traditional insulating materials?

There are so many reasons, but let's just name a few! 1. Narrow clearence - sometimes the clearance between pipes is not large enough to accomodate traditional insulating materials. 2. Unlike traditional insulating materials, ERS Wrap™ blanket insulation can go over bends, elbows, fittings, couplings, etc! 3. No professional install required! Anyone who can operate scissors and zip ties is qualified to install ERS Wrap™ blanket insulation rolls. 4. Installs in minutes!
